Description:
VERE
FOSTER'S ADVANCED WATER-COLOUR SERIES. BRITISH LANDSCAPE AND COAST
SCENERY. BY EDWARD DUNCAN, MEMBER OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF PAINTERS IN
WATER-COLOURS. EIGHT FACSIMILES OF ORIGINAL WATER-COLOUR DRAWINGS,
NUMEROUS PENCIL OUTLINES, AND MANY ILLUSTRATIONS AFTER J. M. W. TURNER,
R.A. WITH AMPLE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DRAWING AND PAINTING, AND DESCRIPTIVE
ESSAY ON EACH SUBJECT. Edward
Duncan was apprenticed to the Robert Havells, elder and younger,
the
aquatint engravers, and his first independent practice as an artist was
engraving coaching and marine prints for such publishers as Fores. An
advocate of the British Watercolor Schools, Edward
Duncan
was a
painstakingly skilled artist with his preferred media. He did train in
oil as well, and was an accomplished and professional engraver. He
started his own engraving studio after tutelage under the Havell
Brothers in London, and primarily created print works for Fores of
Piccadilly and marines from originals of William Huggins, whose
daughter Bertha Edward married.
Joseph Mallord William Turner (23 April 1775[1] – 19 December 1851) was an English Romantic landscape painter, watercolourist and printmaker, whose style is said to have laid the foundation for Impressionism. Although Turner was considered a controversial figure in his day, he is now regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting. (Source wikipedia.com) |
